| End of season roster expansion enabled three more former CICL alumni to make a Major League debut.
Ryan Howard, a first baseman in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, singled in his first Major League at-bat on September 6 against the Atlanta Braves. He went on to get a total of 39 at-bats, collecting 11 hits including 5 doubles and 2 homers for a .282 batting average for the Phillies. Howard played for the Decatur Blues in 1999, batting .319 with 11 homers, leading the league in long-balls that year. On September 8, right-handed pitcher Aaron Rakers made his debut in the first of three relief appearances for the Baltimore Orioles. Aaron pitched a total of 4.1 innings for the Orioles, had no decisions and a 4.15 ERA. Rakers played for the Bluff City Bombers in 1998 compiling a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings pitched. And Justin Knoedler got his first Major League at-bat for the San Francisco Giants on October 2 against Los Angeles Dodgers, flying out to center field. Knoedler, a catcher, played for the Springfield Rifles in 1998 and 1999, batting .252 with 8 homers and 48 RBI over that span. This brings the total to 153 former CICL players who have played in Major League Baseball. |
