Ryan Howard Named 2006 National League MVP
CICL (Decatur Blues, 1999) alumnus Ryan Howard was named the 2006 National League Most Valuable Player on Monday.

Howard is the second CICL alumni to claim an MVP award, the other being Mike Schmidt who won the NL award three times in 1980, 1981 and 1986.

Howard played first base for the Decatur Blues in 1999 after his freshman year at Southwest Missouri State (now known as Missouri State) University in Springfield, Missouri. In that season, Howard led the league with 11 homers and in slugging percentage at .600. He finished 8th in batting average at .319, tied for second in total bases with 96, was 8th in RBI with 30 and had an on-base percentage of .408, 7th in the league.
